Forget Valentine’s Day

Published on January 10, 2007 by in Uncategorized

Yesterday, on the radio, I heard a commercial that reminded me of something.  There is a very special day in February (and seeing as it’s the beginning of January we should definitely be thinking about February).  It is a day that many women look forward to and many men dread.  It is often the busiest day of the year for restaurants, florists, and Chocolatiers.  Some people think of it as the most romantic day of the year. I am speaking, of course, of Groundhog’s Day.  There is really no need to dread this time of year; just because the ladies are all looking for a chocolate groundhog or a bouquet of long stem clover flowers.  The men can celebrate by lifting a Blue Beaver and toasting that noble rodent.

And speaking of rodents, there is a little known fact about the first week of February.  It is actually Rodent Week.  The first is dedicated to the weasel, the second is for groundhogs, the third is muskrat’s day, the fourth – Guinea pigs/hamsters, the fifth celebrates squirrels and chipmunks, the sixth reveres the bat and the seventh is exclusively reserved for the beaver.

Now, although any of these days provide a good excuse to drink, Tim and I go out of our way to observe February Seventh – Beaver Day for the simple fact that it is the mascot of the greatest beer ever.  We would like to see Beaver Day surpass Groundhog’s Day and this year we will be attempting to do just that by having a Beaver/Blue Beaver Festival on the seventh.  We will be celebrating everything related to both the rodent and the beer.  Check your local listings for a location near you and then come on down and help support the cause.
