The other night we went to see Ron James, the famous Canadian comedian, live. It was hilarious. I would highly recommend his show to anyone. Unless, of course, you are the type that hates laughing till you cry.
Some say Ron James is the funniest Canadian Alive. I am sure some might disagree, and tell you The Arrogant Worms are a lot more funnier. Maybe they are, maybe they aren’t. It’s sort of an apples aren’t oranges argument.
First, The Arrogant Worms are a team. They got each other’s back. If one of them slips, the other two just make fun of him and pull him back from the cliff edge. Ron James is alone out there, him against the storm. If he bombs, like any other standup comedian, no one will rescue him.
Second, The Arrogant Worms have music. They can focus around a song layout. At the end of each song, they get a break and everyone claps, etc. it’s like a start over every few minutes. Ron James has no props, no guitars, no distractions. It’s just him and the mic, and his giggles and funny gestures and strange walking / jumping around.
According to the Edmonton Sun, “Ron James leaves em helpless with laughter”. That’s pretty much what I witnessed at the show. People turned to jelly inside from so much laughing. One man was so exhausted he fell in the isle, only to have a lady with a fur coat on step on his head as she fled the scene. Yet another victim of laughtercide.
