Maybe you remember this from Ernie a while back:
Last night, I saw the Mel Gibson movie, "Apocalypto". It is a very good movie and I highly recommend it (though it is a trifle violent). I would like to point out that it is inspired by actual events; and in an interesting "coincidence", before the movie I say the trailer for the Frank Miller movie "300" which is also inspired by actual events. This got me to thinking about all the other movies I’ve seen that were inspired by actual events; "Open Water", "Wolf Creek", "Ice Age", "Night of the Living Dead". All of these movies start out with a minor actual fact, then a 90-180 minute story is built around it. Then the producers can promote the movie as being "inspired by actual events" and everyone will go see it and mistakenly think that the entire film is a true story. This has inspired me; from now on all of my blog entries are going to be "inspired by actual events.

I just came across a comment at DVDActive, which was all about Open Water 2: Adrift, also inspired by a true story. Here is one of the comments, which echos Ernie’s sentiments. Eerily, I might add!
Kaya Savas commented:
“The “Based On True Events” and “Inspired By A True Story” tags are getting rediculous. Almost every movie nowdays is inspired or based on something true. I thought film was a fictional medium, that’s why we have documentaries. Where the hell is all the originality?”
“However, I do appreciate that they put the side effects of watching this film on the cover.
1. Fatigue
2. Hypothermia
3. Death ”

I think that about sums it up. To close, I’m just going to add that each and every bottle of Blue Beaver Beer was brewed by people who were inspired by actual events. Someday, maybe, we will be lucky enough to watch a movie based on their true story of determination in the face of disaster, of guts, skill, luck and sweat. They changed the world by standing up to the man, and now they are the man. They went against the odds and came out on top. This movie would be dedicated to all the members of the team that didn’t make it out alive. Their memories, and some of their parts (just kidding, although that idea was based on actual events), live on in Blue Beaver Beer.
