I know, it says a woman did this. However, I have done this myself once.
I was filling my truck, when a buddy pulled up at another pump. We started shooting the bull, and talked for a few minutes. Before you know it, we said our goodbyes and both got in our trucks. I remembered the fuel nozzle at about the time I made it to the first stop sign, and went back to the scene of the crime.
It only cost about $2000 to fix the damaged pump. Turns out there’s a little computer in each pump, which I of course managed to break.
And the moral of the story is, pay attention to what the heck you are doing!

Wrote this the other day on my blog:
“Oh, and if you put a gas hose away, please make sure that the handle is not locked into the on position. Some idiot either put the hose back on the pump with the trigger locked on, on purpose, or as a malicious trap. I have enough sense not to look down a nozzle, but I still got sprayed lightly on my left hand when I turned on the gas pump before I noticed the trigger was locked. I’m going to be more careful to check in the future before turning the pump on, or will have the nozzle in the tank before switching the pump on.”
