The other day I wrote about my adventures in Medicine Hat.
What I neglected to do was add a picture so I’ll do that now.
Another place that I spent some time was Taber. As everyone knows Taber gained world renown for their corn. When you’re in the area that’s all you can see for miles around is the corn fields. And, of course, they have a giant corn stalk sculpture in the middle of town.
Looking around the area I believe I figured out why Taber corn is so popular. There is a church on, almost literally, every street corner. Taber is a small, but very religious town. I didn’t really have time to look up any sort of real statistics; but in my opinion there must be one church for every 10 or 15 residents. Now the thing is all of these churches are dedicated to different denominations/religions; or so it seems on the outside. I had a theory about them, so I attended a service on day to try to find out the truth. Everything that I saw appeared to be on the up and up (although I’ve never before attended a Jehovah’s Buddhists church so I don’t know what they consider to be normal). I think that they realized there was an out of towner in their midst and so they didn’t reveal what really goes on in these churches. But I have a gut feeling, and as George W. Bush said,"Who needs facts, when you have guts that you can listen to?" Taberians are actually all worshiping some sort of a Corn God. All of the churches are dedicated to It and that’s why Taber Corn is so sought after. Those trucks you see all over the place during the summer aren’t just selling corn they’re recruiting stations for The Taber Corn God. I think they may even sacrifice people to the Corn. Probably some teenagers who are fornicating at the Taber Motel are kidnapped, taken out to the middle of the fields, turned loose and never seen or heard from again. I’m pretty sure I watched a documentary about that sort of thing once. Although they said it was fiction, I’m positive it was "inspired by actual events".
