Long Weekend Camping in Sebekia

May 22nd, 2007 · 1 Comment

The first long weekend of spring in Alberta is very busy. Everyone and their dog has to go out camping. We wanted to get out there too, but we knew that the Horseguard Valley was going to be packed. The campgrounds would be filled right up. Even with the cold water, there would be water skiiers on Horseguard Lake and hikers out on all the trails. That was why we decided to find somewhere a little more secluded. We knew that hardly anyone would be able to gain entry to Sebekia.
Here is an article printed in ‘Moon Over The West’ two years ago about Sebekia.
“Two Condor area farmers have formed alliances and decided to form their own countries. While still recognizing Canada as their Mother Country, each new territory will have its own rules for international travelers, import and export and nuclear weapons.
“ We still intend to follow all of Canada’s rules,” Aron Sebek announced at a recent press release. “My nation will pay taxes just like everyone else, to Canada. When I travel in your country I will do as the natives do. For now I will use your money and pay GST.
“ When you travel into Sebekia, however, you will follow my rules as well as Canada’s. I rule in a no smoking land. Violators will be deported. Trespassers caught scaling the barb wire fences will be forced into weight loss programs before their release. Passports will be required before entry into my country will be granted. Gifts to the President of Sebekia improve your chances of entry, especially of spicy food or alcohol.  You will gain a special lifetime visa for bringing a Blue Beaver Beer gift basket. Any Ford Pintos entering Sebekia will be impounded and used for parts and for the greater glory of my nation. Fireworks are a welcome import item .”
Robert Jones, famous rancher and friend to Eddie Murphy, also has decided to form his own country. “ I will call it The United Pastures of Jonsia. All visitors must enter using my special laneway and stop at the visitor information center, located in my yard. As of yet the only tourist facilities we have available are the extra stalls in the barn and our international airport is not yet operational.
The upcoming P2 summit will give more details on the workings of these mighty new nations. “ We will be getting together in a secluded area to discuss important state issues,” the president of Sebekia told us. As of yet, the only protestors expected to show up are irate wives and girlfriends.”
