Dear Ernie,
Are you now, or have you ever been a member of the Community Centre?
                                                           House Un-Observant Committee in Evergreen

Dear HUOC,
I am not a member of the Community Centre.  I have never been a member of the Community Centre.  I deeply resent all accusations and/or insinuations that I am.  This Committee is nothing more than a witch hunt.  There is, in my opinion, nothing fair about the way this interrogation is being carried out.  I have done nothing wrong.  I merely wish to live my life without fear of unjust persecution.  You have no right to be asking me these kind of questions.  You should be going after Tim.  He once told me that he was thinking about joining the Community Centre and I believe his wife is actually a member.  I, on the other hand, am totally innocent.

Dear Ernie,
Do you think it’s right to name names?
                                                           Guilty Conscience in Upper Fairview

Dear Conscientious,
I firmly believe that there can be times when such a desperate act is the only way to save oneself from persecution.  It is not something that should be done lightly; there can be very dire consequences to such an action.  You can make enemies out of former friends by naming their names.  But it may be that you will make more powerful allies out of the group that you give the names to.  You have to weigh all of the pros and cons of the situation very carefully.  Then, in the end, you have to take whichever action will save your own butt.
