A new Yale University study suggest that global warming may have an upside, at least for Canada. A report from economic professor Robert Mendelsohn of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies has shown that as the Earth warms, the most fertile areas will move northward causing an agricultural production boom there.
Fishermen in Greenland are already experiencing some signs of this as cod are returning. As well, farmers are reporting higher yields.
Economist Richard Tol of the Economic and Social Research Institute in Iceland predicts that the Canadian tourism industry will be the big winner. Canada could experience a 220% increase in international tourists.
Unfortunately, these "experts" are saying this sort of thing won’t happen for approximately another hundred years. And as always there are naysayers out there who have to rush in and tell you all about the harmful effects of climate change. But I think that if we all try just a little harder maybe we will see the benefits within our lifetimes. Alberta is leading the way; the only people here who aren’t driving the giant SUV’s are the ones who are driving decrepit 20 year old "beaters" that burn as much oil as they do gas. We just need the rest of the country to help us out. If you can’t afford an SUV then you should at least buy cases of spray cans that have all of those floro-carbons in them and just spray them up at the sky. Together we can make a difference.
