Rain, Rain Go Away

As I have noted in the past, I have done extensive traveling.  I have seen and experienced many different cultures and peoples.  Alas, one place that I have not been to is Nova Scotia.  Since I have never been able to get over there I have instead done the next best thing, I read about it on the internet.  I have some amazing facts about that noble, yet largely overlooked province.  One of the most unbelievable things that I have discovered is that, in Nova Scotia, it is illegal to water your lawn while it is raining.

Living in Alberta, I find it amazing that this could be a law.  The weather is so unpredictable, even when it does rain it might only last for two or three minutes.  So if you’re watering the lawn before it rains and then three minutes later you just have to turn the sprinklers back on, why not just leave them running?  A perfect example of my logic here is: around where I live it has been just over a week since we stopped flooding.  At that point the ground was just so super-saturated with water that as soon as it would rain at all the water would just pool on top then run off.  So we had barely a week of "good" weather and I started to notice that the lawn wasn’t growing as fast as it should have.  Naturally, I pulled the sprinkler out of the garage and started pouring on the water.  Now my lawn looks great; lush and green and thick, and now I can get out my diesel powered, all terrain, all wheel drive riding mower with seat warmer and cup holder (for my Blue Beaver Beer) and whack that lawn down to the proper length.

Then again there are some people who can afford those fancy automated-timer sprinkler systems.  If I had one of those, I’d set it for whatever time was the default on it then I wouldn’t even bother to try to figure out how change the time or turn it off or anything like that.  I’d just let it run whenever it wanted to run.  And if it decided to rain while I was watering my lawn, that would be the rain’s problem not mine.  Nobody has the right to tell me how to look after my lawn.
