Beavers Meet Rhinos

August 8th, 2007 · No Comments

The Rhinoceros Party was a registered political party in Canada from the 1960s to the 1990s.  The Rhinoceros Party’s basic philosophy, based on the tradition of Canadian political satire, was "a promise to keep none of our promises."  Then they went on to promise such things as; reducing the speed of light because it’s much too fast, providing higher education by building taller schools, abolishing pumping oil out of the ground as that oil is there to keep the Earth moving smoothly on it’s axis and if you withdraw the oil the whole thing will grind to a halt.

When the party was first formed, they claimed that the rhinoceros was an appropriate symbol for a political party since politicians are, "thick skinned, slow moving, dim-witted, can move fast as hell when in danger, and have large, hairy horns growing out of the middle of their faces".

In 1993, the party was forced to disband after a new rule was instituted requiring them to run candidates in at least 50 ridings at a cost of $1000 per candidate.

Just recently, self-appointed party president Brian "Godzilla" Salmi filed suit in Montreal Federal Court.  He is claiming that the election reform laws that stripped the Rhinoceros Party of registered status are unconstitutional.  Salmi has legally changed his name to Satan and the lawsuit is officially filed under, "Satan versus Her Majesty The Queen".

I’m thinking that if Satan wins and the Rhinos are reformed, Blue Beaver Beer might have to become a sponsor; and I would actually be wiling to vote in an election.
