Watch Those Horses, They Cause Chaos
11.08.07 # 5:55 # Uncategorized # One CommentIf you should ever find yourself in Wetaskiwin, Alberta and you’re on horseback and you should happen to come across another horse of the opposite sex; there is something you need to know. As of 1917, it is illegal to tie a male horse next to a female horse on Main Street. I can only speculate as to why this might be a law. Obviously it must have something to do with sex, otherwise there wouldn’t be the distinction between the male and the female horse. So why wouldn’t they want horses to have sex on main street? Well, it would certainly be a distraction not only for passersby but also for the horses themselves. This law was passed in 1917 which was shortly after that Ford guy started making cars. Maybe, the law makers were worried that if two horses were going at it on main street, they might accidentally wander into the path of a car, speeding along at 5 mph. This was long before anyone realized that driving a car could be dangerous, so they didn’t have seat belts. The car hits the horses, the driver is "thrown clear" right into the back of a horse who instinctively reacts by kicking him, he goes flying through the front window of the saloon, hits somebody who spills his drink on somebody else, the second guy punches the first one, all the friends of the first one stand up ready for a fight, all the friends of the second one do the same, a huge brawl breaks out, the saloon gets trashed, the police get called and their Crime Scenes Unit has to sort out the whole mess and find out what happened. There is all that property damage and all the people getting arrested and all of the police and courts time and it all ends up being very costly to the taxpayers. And it all gets traced back to the owners of the horses who then get sued. So the easy solution was to just pass a ridiculous law, then everything would be okay. Either that or just park your horses on one of the side streets.

Well, considering the way you explain the risks involved.. it probably at one time was a good law
