Are Fat People Jolly?

Dear Ernie,
Why is it so funny to make fun of fat people?

Dear Jerk Who Is Skinny,
This is one of those things everyone does almost without thinking about it, but then you feel just a little bit bad after-wards.  You kind of think that if they would just stop eating so much they  wouldn’t be fat which makes it justifiable to make fun of them.  Then you think about how some people have glandular disorders or they are genetically inclined to be fat and you feel a little guilty about making a joke about them.  When Tim and I went to the "Weird Al" concert we saw a very, very large man there.  I made the comment that he must be Al’s stunt double for the "Fat" video.  We both laughed, then we both felt just a little bad.
A little bit a research has shown that this has been going on for as long as humans have been on Earth.  It was extremely rare to see a fat caveman, but it did happen occasionally.  Naturally, all of his peers would make fun of him behind his back.  When they were out hunting and he could only run a few yards before wheezing and holding his side, they would all point and laugh.  But when he got eaten by a sabre-toothed tiger, they all felt kind of bad about it.
This picture pretty much speaks for itself.Fat_man   Basically it is human nature, we’re laughing but deep down we’re hoping that nothing like that ever happens to us.

    Hey, Ernie,
I’m planning a trip to the Horseguard Valley in June, 2008. What is the weather going to be like on the 15th of June, so I know what to pack? Thanks for your wise answer.
