Lock Up Your Cars

Published on August 22, 2007 by in Uncategorized

In the town of Cochrane, Alberta in 1948; a bylaw was passed that made it illegal to leave your car unattended and unlocked.  Anyone caught doing so could face a fine of up to $10 or 21 days in jail.

Imagine the humiliation of explaining that to your cell mates.  "What are you in for?"  "Well, I left my car unlocked while I went in the store and then someone stole it."  "Why didn’t you just tell the cops that you left it locked?"  "I would’ve but whoever stole it reported me."  "Ha, ha, ha!  You’re an idiot!"  That would be just terrible to have the real criminals laughing at you.

  1. I don’t know about it being necessary to be made a law, but it’s just smart to always lock your car. Especially if your car is in your driveway with the garage door opener in it. Theives can get in your car AND open the garage door. That’s scarey!
