Text Me

Published on August 23, 2007 by in Uncategorized

I read a very interesting statistic in the paper yesterday.  Apparently, over 50% of the world’s population has never made or received a phone call.  I assume that this means an even higher number has never sent or received a text message.  Here in North America we’re definitely making up for everyone else’s slack.  I see so many people everyday who are practically glued to their cell phones.  And more and more it seems that texting is taking the place of talking.  Anybody who has even a random thought they want to share with a friend, they just whip out the cell phone and start texting away.  I’ve even witnessed co-workers who are texting while driving (which I believe is more dangerous than just talking).  I sometimes wonder what the world is coming to.  Personally, I have never text messaged anyone, yet; I don’t even care that much for talking on the phone.  I want a call to last just long enough to set up an actual-live-face-to-face meeting.  Other than that it serves little purpose for me.  If we continue at this rate I fear that, within two generations, no one will ever speak to each other anymore.  That seems like a step backwards to me.  So if you want to get together with me for a Blue Beaver or two down at the Redneck Bar & Grill, have your girl call my girl and set something up or leave a message on my voice-mail.
