6.09.07 # 5:03 # How To Be Cool Tips # No CommentOne of the least cool things you can do is to worry about the opinions of others and try to change yourself so that they will want to be around you. Don’t get me wrong. By all means, brush your hair, put on some clean clothes and try not to walk around with your fly down. But don’t agonize for hours over how to make people like you based on how you look. You don’t see Bugs Bunny wearing clothes to fit in and make everyone like him. Ok, so he dresses up like a girl bunny now and then, but his sex life is his own business.
How about superheros? They like to wear spandex all the time, and they talk in sarcastic one-liners while posing in strange, heroic ways with their legs and arms all in funny positions. If someone punches one of them real hard, a superhero (or heroine) might yell "YeeeARGGH!" in public real loud. Does it look like they care what people think? I can’t even imagine going into public wearing only spandex.Yet, Superman is one of the coolest people alive today, and he wears spandex and a cape, when capes aren’t even in style. I bet when he flies overhead, he isn’t thinking " I hope people like me. I don’t have any friends." Superman is too busy doing stuff he wants to do to worry about fashion or sucking up, and everyone wants to be his friend. He could hold up your car so you could change the oil, or squeeze some coal lumps to make you diamonds, or save you money on air fare by giving you a lift to Boston. I heard he has a super sense of humor, too.
Here is an example from El Nerdo on how not to be cool:
El Nerdo : Hey, guys, what’er you doin?
Cool guy : Whatever
El Nerdo : I noticed you guys all had sports jerseys on, and I want to be just like you guys, so I went and got one too! Wanna see it?
Cool guy : Whatever
El Nerdo : I couldn’t find your favorite team, so I got this Castor Raiders shirt. Get it? Casteraiders? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Other Cool guy, as he starts walking away : Whatever
El Nerdo : Want some gum? Guys?
This is a classic case of trying too hard. Don’t be like El Nerdo. Just be who you are, not some dipstick poser..
