The coin is made of pure gold; it weighs 220 pounds, is 20 inches in diameter and is 1 inch thick.One might assume that we Canadians would be proud of such an accomplishment. However; we already have the Loonie ($1 dollar coin) and the Twoonie ($2 coin) and there are rumours going around about the possibility of a $5 dollar coin in the near future (the fivoonie?). You go out shopping for a day and when you get home your pants weigh twenty pounds from all the change you’ve collected. And there’s another drawback to these coins which most people are not aware of.
In the movies and on t.v. you see guys (like Al Bundy) at the Nudie Bar tucking “singles” into the girls’ g-strings. Around here we just sit back 10 feet from the stage and chuck coins at the performers. This doesn’t really make a difference to the guys but sometimes I wonder how the girls feel about this sort of thing. Although if I was a stripper and someone chucked a solid gold coin at me I guess I’d be pretty happy. I could go back to college and get my degree and then get a job where I didn’t have to degrade myself for paying clients. A job that I wouldn’t be ashamed to talk about when people asked me what I did for a living. I could become a respected professional; like a lawyer.

I was born and raised in Canada so I know all about the loonie and toonie.. I didn’t hear that they were possibly going to introduce a $5 coin! I think that’s a bit too much. I do clearly remember my pants be unnecessarily heavy due to having extra change… thanks for the post! Made me nostalgic of my homeland!
