Membership Has It’s Rewards

Speaking of membership cards; has anyone noticed that everywhere you go these days, they’re trying to get you to accept their card. Around these parts nearly every gas station has a membership card which entitles you to a discount of anywhere from 2 – 7 cents/litre on the gas price. A clever scheme in some ways, except that there are few places that give the discount without the card. And most of the time if you just go 10 minutes down the highway there’s a gas station that has a posted price 3 cents cheaper than in the city. Also, every single store you go into tries to give you those air mile things; which you can use to “buy” crappy merchandise instead of airline tickets.

Now, way back when I was a young ‘un, I can only recall one such membership scam. There was a grocery/hardware store chain who would give you a number when you became a member. Anytime you made a purchase at the store they would ask for your number. At the end of the year you would receive some sort of dividend. It’s funny though, I never received one penny despite the fact that I would always give our family’s number when I bought something. I guess my parents were in on the scam.

So if you are a recently new patron of The Redneck Bar and Grill, you should sign up to be one of our Beer Buddies. You’ll receive 3.5 cents/litre off the price of Blue Beaver Beer, you can collect 1 Redneck Reward Mile on every comment, and at the end of the year you’ll be sent a dividend cheque for 1/4 of 1/3 of 3% of all the profits we make on the sale of any beer that is not Blue Beaver. Act now and you’ll even be able to see you name printed in plain text on the right side of our page. Supplies are limited to the first 2641.

  2. 1/4 of 1/3 of 3% in Canadian $! Great since the US$ is so weak it can’t buy me much. I think I found my new retirement plan.
