I was over checking out Mental Floss yesterday; and I read a very interesting article about food challenges. There’s the 12 pound burger, the twelve egg omelette and a 72 oz steak. These sorts of challenges will often award prizes to anyone who can finish the entire meal. After reading this I decided that was exactly the sort of thing we need to have at The Redneck Bar & Grill to really put us on the map. So I stared to ponder exactly what sort of food we should use for this challenge. Being square in the middle of redneck country Alberta my first thought was a steak and potatoes. Upon further thought though I wanted to try something a little more unique. I started thinking about traditional Canadian cuisine. At first I considered pemmican or bannock, but somehow neither one felt quite right. Then all of a sudden it hit me like a massive heart-attack; poutine. There’s no other food that says Canada like poutine.
So here then is the challenge, for anyone who feels up to it. We start with 48 oz of fries, then 16 oz of cheese curds (using shredded mozza goes against tradition), 16 oz of extra thick chicken gravy and to wash it down a full jug of Blue Beaver Stout. That’s a full 5 pounds of food and 2 pints (just over 1 litre) of one of the best beers available. Anyone who get consume it all in under an hour will win some amazing prizes. First of all a certificate detailing your accomplishment, a Blue Beaver Beer t-shirt, your name on our Poutine Wall of Fame, a case of Blue Beaver Beer and of course your meal will be free (a $35 value). If you can’t quite finish the whole thing you’ll still get the booby-prize; your ambulance ride will be on us.
