I was over at Absolutely True the other day and I watched a very thought provoking video. A guy draws a chart to show the potential worst-case-scenarios regarding global warming. Go watch the most terrifying video ever; and then come back here for my rebuttal.
Are you back? Okay. First of all I want to say that this guy make a very interesting point. One which we may be wise to really listen to. However; his entire argument hinges on one key phrase.
“All reasonable people should be able to admit they might have a mistaken understanding about reality.” Now, I don’t consider myself to be unreasonable, as most things go; and I have a very correct understanding of reality. It’s just that a vast number of people have a view of reality that is different from mine. For example; in my reality Blue Beaver Beer is the greatest beer ever brewed by humans (Martian beer is something else entirely), whereas some people have told me that in their reality Blue Beaver doesn’t even exist. In my reality, I’m a huge YouTube star. Other people would say that in their universe 35 views on one video is less than a drop in the bucket.
What I’m trying to say here is that there are far too many people who are not sufficiently reasonable to even acknowledge that there might be anything apart from their own limited reality. Take George Bush…please!

Sorry.. it hurts my brain to try to think this hard. But let me tell you this.. Blue Beaver Beer, sadly, doesn’t exist in MY real reality. I’ve searched, and it just doesn’t exist in my real reality, only in my cyber reality where I am the Monday night brawl champion.
Unfortunately I know a lot of people that would have a hard time even contemplating the notion that other people’s realities actually exist.
They understand that alternate realities exist on tv and the movies but have a hard time realizing other people think differently from them.
