So last night (or more accurately this morning) at around 3:30 – 4 a.m. my room-mate came home from her job and turned on her t.v. (she lives upstairs and I have the basement).  Normally she is considerate of the fact that I am asleep when she gets in and keeps the volume low.  Every now and again though she forgets and thus my rest is disturbed (and my regular viewers already know I don’t need to be any more disturbed).

Now I’ve always been the kind of person who has a lot of trouble falling asleep when there’s noise in the house; and last night was no exception.  After being awakened I tossed and turned a lot; I would partially doze off then coming back again.  At one point I thought I should just get up, even though I had intended to get up at 6:15.  And then I thought, if I did get up I could go write something here at The Redneck, and I seem to recall thinking of a good topic.  Then, fortunately, I did go back to sleep until my alarm rang.

The only bad thing is, when I got up I could no longer remember what I was going to write about.  So that’s why I’m merely giving you a dramatic account of my trials and tribulations whilst I was sleeping.

Has that ever happened to you? What have your sleep troubles been?

Actually yeah it happens to me all the time, sometimes a great idea will be in my head and I thought hey it’s such a good idea it should stick in my head even if I go to bed now. Hours later, I’m all groggy and can only remember I had an idea but what it is, no idea! Tried keeping a notebook but got lazy after awhile…

Are you sure you just didn’t dream it all? Since when does the Redneck Bar and Grill open so early that you have to get up at the crack of dawn? You holding out on us? LOL

It takes a long time to get the prep work done for all these sandwiches we’ve added to the menu. I have to bake the bread and whatnot.

  4. Corrina says:

It’s not your fault… You can’t be expected to retain your thoughts through sleep. I’ve spent many nights thinking of interesting things to do the next day, or blog about, only to forget all about them when I wake up. Pesky sleep.

I write music, and the worst is forgetting a good idea. If I find a tune rattling around in my head at 4:00AM I force myself to record it. It’s the only way, good or bad, to not lose my thoughts. That’s my only advice. Though sleep is important too.

I’m a bit of an insomaniac so yes I’m usually tossing and turning for late hours. I usualy tend to think of imaginary conversations that I will have with people the next day.

  7. This has happened to me alot!! My memory is bad enough to begin with however?! Glad to have found your site. Thanks for posting this!

Yes, that happens to me. I’ve forgotten all my best ideas. I remember reading that Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday in his sleep. A good job he didn’t forget that.

I don’t think that’s my case since my wife tells me I can be talking with her and suddenly just not answer a question and she notice I’m already sleeping. lol.

Ha. I get those all the time. I come up with some great idea for a website and I tell myself I will remember it in the morning. I wake up and spend the rest of the day kicking myself for not writing it down because I was too lazy and sleepy.

Now I keep a paper/pen next to my bed for specifically this purpose.

Hmm I dunno if you really should call this “troubles”. When we are awake our body needs some time to charge and it’s highly common that you forget stuff you do between different sleep phases.

I agree with Busby…though i also go for the sleep little late so i don’t want my sleep to get disturbed and yes every body wants to enjoy the sleep….because while sleeping i used to get different thoughts about what to write in my next blog…

    Thanks..

Sounds like you need some earplugs for when your room mate comes home!

Missing out on sleep is really bad for your body.

  18. Sometime it happens when we go for the sleep we get the dreams of work we always do….and then we sometimes forget what we have had dream of…..but we do remember also some things…..which we implement….further…

  19. Nimmy from SEO India Company says:

It is important to have a sleep but i truly agree with Zara as if some where happens that you forget every thing what you thought of after sleep than it should be written on a paper….

  20. car loan calculator I am totally disagree with Nimmy who said that “some where happens that you forget every thing what you thought of after sleep than it should be written on a paper….” If there is some necessary thing are then you will remember every things what you have to be do.

  21. to me actually. I get big problem of sleeping. I always need absolute quietness. I could not fall asleep with even very light voice.

  22. I hear you! Sometimes I have trouble sleeping too :(
I generally get up and take a stroll around the block (weather permitting). That generally relaxes me enough to hit the hay.

  23. Samantha says:

I know how frustrating this can be. I sometimes wake at like 5am and my brain is going 1,000 miles a second. the only problem is that my body’s either still asleep or too lazy to do anything about it, so mentally, i start making “bullet lists” in my mind of the things to not forget when I finally wake up…never works. I get out of bed a few hours later & have no idea what i was so excited about. AHHHH! They say that good ideas don’t go away, they just go to someone else, I guess this is how it happens!!

  24. keep a pen and piece of paper next to the bed in future ;)

  25. Tempurpedic says:

The best thing to do is to keep a notepad on your nightstand, and write down all the ideas that come to you during the night. I used to get a lot of good ideas in the middle of the night, but was too lazy to get up from my bed. Now, I wake in the morning with my ideas ready to go.

  26. i am in the same situation as you are. but then i look for ways to easily get my sleep even when i am disturbed. i am still working on it but i already see some improvements. the resources i used is from the internet using some hypnosis of some sort..

  27. Ow that will absolutely ruin your whole day when you don’t have enough sleep and forgot all the thing running in your mind just before you sleep last night. Been there done that and It sucks!

  28. Bessie says:

If you can’t get asleep you have to eat something you really like. That will calm you down and you can go to bed again :)

  29. stacie from tigi catwalk says:

I’m a sleep freak. I can fall asleep better when there is noise in the background and a light on but I can only stay asleep if it’s dark and quiet. Plus, I hate when I think of something good in the middle of the night and can’t remember it the next morning so I have a notebook by my bed :D

  30. Dave from plastic surgery Utah says:

I always have my best ideas when I am in bed unable to sleep. Unfortunately I never write them down so I always forget them. Even worse, one of my best ideas that I have is to keep a notebook on my nightstand, but I always have that idea while I’m in bed and I forget it in the morning. Its a viscous cycle.
