Beware: Non Bloggers will find this a tad Bit Boring! But if you want Backlinks, Bear with me. The rest of you might as well Begone, or Bend over to take a Bludgeoning of Bewildering Backlink Bull$hit in the Backside the likes of which you have never Been Blasted By Before…..
It is amazing the lengths people go to to get backlinks to their blog. They beat themselves black and blue, bend over backwards, doing backflips to get other bloggers to bend their way. I’m no different. I have rushed hither and yon like a chicken with it’s head cut off, following good and bad advice with abandon. The only thing about it is, all this activity sure has shown me what doesn’t work well for my situation, as well as what does. This morning I have done some serious house cleaning on my online portfolios, ditching a bunch of useless dot info sites that I don’t need and trying to figure out if I should scrap even a few of the dot coms or just ‘farm’ them out (wink wink nudge nudge). My biggest problem is lack of time, what with a full time job of over 70 hours per week and a family and a social life, etc. I don’t need to spend all of my valuable time on sites that have tanked and are just wasting internet space.
I used to participate in link memes and other crazy stuff to try to get traffic. I spent hours on ‘social linking‘ activities, trying to get ‘friends’. While this did get me some results, mostly what it got me was really busy and out of time. A lot of people will count social sites like facebook as entertainment. You know, if all I want is entertainment I would be better off picking up a book or going to see a movie. Facebooking is more like turning oneself into a computer zombie with limited typing opportunities. If I’m gonna be a zombie, I might as well be a sci fi movie zombie, so I can eat popcorn without getting my keyboard all greasy.
Dofollow comments have gotten me results, as has Keyword Luv. In fact, they seem to be really helpful. The problem is the time it takes to visit all those blogs and actually read them in order to make a relevant comment. A lot of us just fall behind on the time and energy. Also, leaving comments will never get you right to the top in the search engines, and I think this was confirmed at Make Money Online With Grizzly although I don’t recall exactly where on his site I found that tidbit. Since he is one of the Top Bears I tend to believe his info. Also, after leaving hundreds of dofollow comments, I never did reach number one for any of the keywords I targeted. Go figure. It did help, but just couldn’t get me over the hump.
One really useful activity is writing and submitting articles to directories so that others can use them on their sites. Every time you get free backlinks and it works really well. The problem is it takes a lot of time and energy to submit all of those articles. Even with a service like Unique Article Wizard it is still very time consuming. By far one of the most successful services I have used is ConnectContent, which I discussed in my post How to Build Backlinks For Beginners. I have had quite a bit of luck getting results from this site, and it is highly recommended by many ‘gurus’ out there including Grizzly. From my lowly position at the bottom of the SEO pile, I guess my conclusion is that for most of us, moving up in the SERP’s is going to take time, persistance and work. Basically, persistance is the main virtue of most endeavours. Without that one thing you might as well forget huge successes online. Without persistance, you probably won’t succeed in marriage, child rearing, brick and mortar and real life carreers, or any other worthwhile endeavour. Heck, without persistance, you can’t even wade through all the crap on TV to find a decent program. Now excuse me while I get in a little ‘me’ time. Where is that remote?
You have a great blog with some great content. I am newbie as far as getting backlinks is concerned but I have picked up a few ideas just from the comments above. Hopefully everything will fall into place with SEO over time. Thanks to all!
Getting backlinks will take time and effort, can’t see any quick fix but by blogging you find loads of great tips and suggestions and if you get a backlink as well – a bonus. I have just re-read your article and picked up a further tip I missed last time, cheers.
Couldn’t agree more. Been on the do follow bandwagon for some time but getting articles published definitely works better and is quicker. Especially if you use a submission service.

I did not really try that but advice to others not to waste time on social networks … unless you have an interesting app which seem to be flooding over facebook lately…
And I do agree with persistence … It is one of the most important things and it can be really tough competing with the rest of the world…

I think keyword luv is one of the best baclink methods one can use to get links to there sites. there are al ot of other automated things out there but it could harm you rather than help. It takes time to build links if you just take the the time the rewards will come.

I use Fast Blog Finder and The FREE Blog commenter (http://www.thefreeblogcommenter.com/) to get keywordLuv/commentluv enabled blogs as well as top comments & Nofollow Free blogs for the keywords I target. I also have an outsourcer write and submit articles through UAW.
This has worked very well for me.
It really depends on what phrase you are trying to rank for. If it is ultra competitive you are going to need more links than just from blog comments. Good blogs that are on topic can push you up a few notches with consistency though.
Consistency is the key. You can not expect to move up the rankings overnight. You need to make quite a few comments. If you are looking to rank for a very competitive keyword it is going to take more than just blog comments.
I would like to learn a lot more about back links and how they work.

I’m trying to make a lot of blog comments at the moment. You mention that despite hundreds of these you’ve never made it to the top. That’s a shame.
One thing that is critical when selecting keywords to optimize. And that is finding out competition factors. If you are choosing keywords that have more than 30,000 competing websites optimized for the same thing chances are not good you are going to find your way to the top. Especially if there are other keywords that have a bit less traffic but a substantially less amount of competition. I recommend a program called market samurai. It is inexpensive and it can provide invaluable information about keywords and competition.
You can rank highly for low competition key phrases, but usually just for a short time. That\’s where backlinks help a lot.

Well backlinks from blogs will get you up in the serps if you do it the correct way and have done your keyword research correctly. This redneck has been getting sites ranked for several years now lol.
Its really an honest statement. Backlinks from comments alone wont get you to the top. Its really a combination of other techniques as well. Article submissions is very effective as well.
Still running KWluv? Alot of people seemed to have dropped it due to the sheer volume of comments they get anymore.

Back link carries the much importance in any seo campaign.I am searching some quality backlinks from dofollow blogs and fourms.
What’s frustrating about SEO is how it is always changing. I guess there is good and bad to this. It’s good because it keeps us on our toes and we don’t have to worry about following the same routine over and over again. It’s bad because you could put a lot of work into a project and the next day Google could change its mind and SEO can be completely different.
No Doubt about the back link carries the most importance.But we should concentrate on quality back link instead of bulk of links.
