I currently manage over 20 Facebook pages for clients and don’t even have one myself…don’t have enough time, as the article eloquently illustrates they are addictive. I can’t wait until the day I see a TV ad from drug company asking if I suffer from social networking desease. Side effects include no interaction with opposite sex, bad hair cut, and out of style clothes.

Speaking about use social networks and site promotion, I don’t think that searching systems make sites relevant thanks to the number of backlinks in the SN. The ads there – yes, it can be efficacious. And I do agree that Facebook is addictive. Don’t like it really.

You’re kind of right. Facebook seems relatively worthless, although I’ve never seriously tried its advertising program. Is it any good?

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I myself am a confirmed Facebook addict, but I am not that negative when it comes to FB. For me it’s a chance to communicate with people that I normally wouldn’t be communicating with, and I love that. It’s so easy to keep in touch with people on FB. However, I do agree that balance is good, and I appreciate the advice! Perhaps you’ll see me in Facebook rehab one of these days =)

After I tired of fighting others with my zombie, I thought I was pretty much done with facebook. Well, that was over six months ago, and I still log on every day to update my status, check messages, and read the news feeds. I wouldn’t classify it as an addiction, so I guess I’m one of the lucky ones. My question is, if you’re going for more PR, is it really worth spending time on nofollow social media like facebook?

First of all, I quite like Tim’s idea… but that would lead to me becoming addicted to social networking sites, as you’ve pointed out. You’re quite right about facebook, there are people who are on it every half hour telling us they’ve just had lunch and they’re ‘too full now!!!’ It’s not really a place to keep up with real friends, it’s about getting as much attention and as many fake friends as possible.
