I bet that Sierra Wireless Compass 597 Aircard is pretty much obsolete now because of the advancements in technology. Heck I have high speed internet on my phone wherever whenever i want now.

Great post – I especially like the entertaining opening paragraph! I’ve been having internet problems like crazy lately. I recently purchased the mobile Wifi device from Spring called the OverDrive and I like it a lot. Although I have to admit, I am on my 2nd device now because the 1st one had some issues… Luckily Sprint did an exchange and gave me a brand new device and now I don’t have any problems.

so one year later how has the Sierra Wireless Compass 597 Aircard experience been? its amazing that in the year 2010 there are areas with low internet connectivity. where i live they dont guarantee political stability but they sure rank amongst the highest in internet penetration in the world!

Sattelite consumer internet has come a long way, but it’s still very slow and cumbersome. You should see the mil-grade connections we get in Iraq, though. Lightning fast.

I’m trying to get my uncle hooked up to the internet and he travels around a lot with his job. Somehow, he’s not really up to date with the internet and connections but his company and family need to be able to keep up with him. If this sierra card is any good I might get one for him and see how it goes.

I used to have an aircard for travel but have found that most places I stay have a public access point. Some may be a bit slow, but for what I do they are adequate.
