Well, there has been a great deal of interest in the whole spam topic. Many people out there are similarly plagued. A lot of you had ideas on how to deal with the infestation. I, however, came up with a plan of my own.
I just packed up everything and moved to parts unknown. Didn’t leave a forwarding address or anything. Now these accursed spammers will still be looking for me at my old place. They’ll never be able to find me where I am; therefore they won’t be able to spam me. I am certain that this plan is fool-proof. How could anyone spam my blog if they don’t know where I live?
Just recently, though, I found out that spam-bots aren’t all bad. I was reading an article in my favourite magazine, Mental Floss, on the subject. Programmers make CAPTCHAs in order to weed out the bots. At the same time, however, hackers are programming their bots to be smarter and be able to defeat the CPTCHA’s. As this process continues to go back and forth the spam bots could eventually achieve true artificial intelligence.
I guess this means that eventually the spam-bots will be able to deluge every single blog out there with a ton of spam all by themselves. This will give the humans more time to download porn; and that can’t possibly be a bad thing.

What??? Hackers can now defeat captchas? Is there nowhere safe in the world? That is really disappointing to hear.
Such a vicious circle…we weed them out but they grow again…but… the moving thing should help! :0)
Cheers
It’s like an ongoing fight, like a disease that they make a cure for then out comes a worse strain. Look at chicken and swing flu, it’s just natural that one wants to outdo another
I kind of hate CAPTCHAs. I don’t use ‘em and don’t have an inordinate amount of spam. Ugh. I’m asking for it, aren’t I? May as well go download some porn.
Lol – I love the logic. If only if only it worked that way. I move about 20 times a year…no spam would ever be able to find me again!
My site seems to be getting hit pretty hard lately – some weirdo from the Chicago area who goes by the name of JD trying to download some private vidoes me and the wife made. Keep your eyes out!
CHEERS!
I personally hate captcha as well. Because of 2 things: 1 – it’s possible to hack captcha – there lots of services who offer captcha recognition as low as $1 per 1000!!! captchas. So if anybody wonna spam – it’ll spam. In other hand, if you REALLY wonna use capcthas i suggest you to use recapcha – as far as i know its unhackable. Good luck with your blog!
by the way – your captcha asked me the enter the SAME word “beaver” 2 times :/
I use captcha on almost all my sites and forums.. Better to be safe then sorry. When you get hit once, it never stops and thats why i rather include captcha in the start of the site. I would have to do it sooner or later..
But that one about bots getting through captcha is a new to me. I hope they cant and it is just an urban legend
You have pointed out the use of CAPTCHA, I also uses this to eliminate SPAM but I still have the last say if a certain comment need to be approved or not to be posted on my site. CAPTCHA is a great help for me and I less worries about spammers.
By the way i have fill up your CAPTCHA two times but not confirmed where my comment is. Thanks
I keep getting hit with spammy comments. On one of my sites I get the same comment submitted by a different name up to 4 times a day. Its driving me mad.
I have considered Captcha but have no idea how to set it up. It would definately help solve the problem.
It does help somehow with spamming. Better have one than none.
It’s a never ending story with spam. I think CAPTCHA is a great solution and I believe it will have to evolve in the future, although I have to admit that even today there are some websites that use CAPTCHA that even human beings can’t understand…
Lol, AI in spam bots?! Well, the captcha I’m sure works so well but spam will always be a problem, but I really don’t know why. Does the spammer really benefit from all the comments left?
I think your ideas are great !!!!!!!
but spammers really going to hate it
Yeh….. it looks like the spam bots are going to take over all the blogs, and eventually the world.
Maybe someone will make a horror movie about spam bots.
Nice Planning! Let’s see now what spammer’s will do now.
Programmers make CAPTCHAs in order to weed out the bots. At the same time, however, hackers are programming their bots to be smarter and be able to defeat the CPTCHA’s. As this process continues to go back and forth the spam bots could eventually achieve true artificial intelligence.
Well, can we call this the cyberspace race? This seems to be a competition between programmers and hackers regarding who between them could dominate the cyber space. Isn’t this exciting? Don’t you think it could lead to further advancement?
By your logic everyone is a winner. Your idea’s intrigue me and I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.
They will find a way. There are always ways around things for spammers. Just moderate harder.
spammers is really a big problem for a blog.there should be spam filter.this is well written post.
this is really great.i really appreciate your step.spammers are really a big problem in now a days.
excellent.i am with you. i also want to get rid to the spammers.go ahead with your step.
I think we all should take some actions to prevent it! Moreover to discourage them doing it! However, it is all about money making and there always will be a way of doing spam!
CAPTCHA security depends on how they modify the images. For easy CAPTCHAs one can use the OCR technology in combination of some AI program that could interpret the CAPTCHA into text. But this would be quite tough for complex CAPTCHAs like the one used by Gmail.
Why not manually delete spams? It’s tedious but don’t you think it is a better way do away with spams?

Yes, the competition between the two leads to the development of much more sophisticated spambots, but it also results to the advancement of CAPTCHAs. This seems to be an endless cycle of winning and losing between the spambots and CAPTCHAs. Don’t you think this would end? Who would be the winner in the end?
this is really wonderful.i also want to get rid of spammers.captcha is really works.
really great.i think captcha is wonderful to stop spam.and spammers will hate it.
this is really great to stop spam comments.askimet plugin is wonderuful to stop spammers.
CAPTCHA is excellent. I don’t know what my blog would be without it. It’s really effective, isn’t it?
Many people are now adopting some version of captcha. It is a minor irritation for ‘normal’ visitors but I think we all understand why it’s needed and accept it as inevitable. Will this resolve the spam problem? Not at all. It’s a well known phenomenon that people put much more effort and investment into illegal and immoral activities than legitimate ones and so the ‘bad’ guys will always lead the pack. Anti-virus is great example and has spawned a multi-million dollar business for some so you can be sure that captcha and all it’s derivatives will eventually follow the same route and be as profitable and abundant as Norton and the like.
spam comments should be stopped I appreciate it that you share something so wonderful with the readers of this blog and yes i also want to get rid of spammers.
The bots can’t defeat captchas . In my opinion the only way to prevent spam comments is to manually approve all the new comments, otherwise everybody can spam !
The best way to get rid of spam is by not removing the nofollow tag from your page. Once people see the dofollow then they feel like they can leave any kind of comment and they are going to get some link love.
Spam filters tools like Akismet are also not much up to the mark that they can find out who is spamming. This is a trouble some situation selecting good comments.
As far as I know, most captcha hackers can take on the captcha used on this site. Recaptcha is probably the best I have seen… I use it on some of my blogs.
i think captcha is great to stop spam and i think askimet plug in really works to avoid spammers.
What a great way to prevent spam. I would have never thought of this myself. Thanks for hours saved sifting through garbage.
Well i think CAPTCHA is one of the greatest thing because it can avoid the hackers are other users who are not a real user. There are so many CAPTCHA code are existing in the web we can apply it easily.
I hate CAPTCHAs because it discourages lots of users(specially in impulsive mood) if they make a single mistake on first try. Here is how I tackle SPAM attacks on the comment form of my blog without using a CAPTCHA!!!
well i think akisment plug in really helps to stop spammers to some extent ,i do have a blog and i have installed it and its working.
WOW Gold spammers are the worst.
People should try to add value to blogs they are commenting to. Especially if they are nofollow free.
Anyway, being nofollow free seems to serve as a magnet for these kinds of people.
Captcha FTW!
Is there any other way to find spammers IP address? because i am getting 1000 spam mail per day through my website’s inquiry form which contains same description.
i want to get rid of spammers and i just hate spammres and just installed akismet plug-in in my blog and it has stopped spam comments to some extent
Good Inisght
Thank you very much. I’m going to put this too good use.
.-= Dieta´s last blog ..Emagreça comendo sanduíche =-.
nowadays spams are very harmful for internet users and everyone want to get rid of them thanks to you providing this great solution.
