Eventually we all come to point in our lives when we experience one small thing that will suddenly make us feel old. For some it might be when your best friends’ son (whom you can remember holding when he was only a foot long) graduates high school. For others it might be finding four grey hairs in your goatee (that probably doesn’t apply to very many females). For me personally it happened when I watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
Allow me to list the highlights of the movie. Megan Fox wearing Daisy Duke shorts, sprawled out on top of a motorbike. Some amazingly real looking CG robots. Megan Fox bouncing running. Lot’s of explosions. Megan Fox in a low cut blouse. Comic relief from two new auto-bots (Mudflap & Skid-Z). Megan Fox (‘nuff said). What more could any red-blooded, red-necked man ask for? Well, I left the theatre asking for substance.
I felt the same way after watching G.I. Joe. Both movies look great on the surface, but below that; they just didn’t do anything for me. I never used to be that concerned about such things. I watched “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” just to see Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino in their bras. I actually paid money to watch “Spice World”. Can you believe that? Looking back I barely can.
Now I want to watch movies with a strong plot and character development, conflict and resolution, an exciting climax and a well thought out denouement (and, obviously, hot chicks). What the hell happened to me? I must be getting old. Well, hopefully “Jennifer’s Body” will satisfy my desires.
I think its not getting old, it’s just changing your taste. And that’s not a big deal.
My theory says ‘You are as old as you feel”. The more you feel the older you grow..
So, don’t feel that you are growing old, its just that you are growing up..;)
LOL…no I don’t think it is that you are getting older…people of all ages watch those kinds of movies when they don’t want to have to concentrate too hard!!! You are becoming some what more “mature” in your taste/choice of entertainment!!! :0)
That isn’t to say you won’t ever enjoy those kinds of movies again but there is so much more to enjoy, besides there are “hot chicks” in many thought provoking movies!!! :0)

Hahaa, Spice World is a classic movie of bad singing and underdressed ladies, so why wouldn’t it be a big hit? I think it’s way better to be slightly older and have better taste if you’re no longer going to watch High School Musical like a creepy old man
It could also just be that these movies were just so bad that even fancy special effects weren’t enough. Megan Fox was close…but yeah, I’ll blame this one on modern directors being idiots.

I had the same problem with the last Indiana Jones. Though it was one of the great trilogies of my youth, I was having trouble concentrating on a plot so thin you needed a magnifying glass to find it. Harrison Ford mailed that performance in. I could say the same about the revamped Star Wars trilogy too.
I experienced first-hand a too-old moment on my trip to Asia. I used to love spending $6 a night and staying in random hostels. Now married and traveling with the wife, we couldn’t get ourselves to stay in any place without air and a good breakfast buffet.
Here is to the next chapter of life.

Well I’m 42 and I just say this as bluntly as possible: I’m not a fan of Megan’s. Jessica Abba now, that’s a different story. Kallie in Firefly got my engine running in over drive.
I quit following the transformers series when they canceled the Beast War’s animated show back in the 80′s. It’s went down hill since then for me.
I find myself being drawn more to series types of shows rather than movies. I was completely absorbed by The 4400 TV show, and have been an avid fan of Doctor Who since the very first episode of the new series come out.
With a movie you have two hours to get a story told and that is it, with a tv series you have a lot longer time to develop and expand upon the characters involved.
Ernie, getting old thoughts has been haunting me since I turned 30 and I didnt allow any grey hairs to turn up on my head. LOL i shaved it and then had a goatee to suppresss my old looks. Have you noticed Lisa Kudrow consistenly for over a period of ten years of the FRIENDS saga?. Its quite evident that she looked really old when compared to the first episode. If Megan Fox and Monica Belluci can have their figures proportionate even now, why cant lisa? I am an ardent fan of her and cant control my laugh when she cracks a joke each time.

I don’t think it has anything to do with age but more to do with taste. Age progresses linearly and almost always in one direction (unless someone other than Ponce de Leon can prove otherwise) LOL. Taste evolves and it could advance or regress. Aesthetic fulfillment is either emotional and/or intellectual. Perhaps the plethora of mindless T&A demanded a break and attraction for the excitement of say “My Dinner with Andre”?
I enjoyed the movie.. but probably for different reasons to you! I do agree however.. it was a bit thin on the ground plot wise.

Lol, and I thought my husband was just being sentimental until I read your post. He was really a fanatic of transformers and he even had a collections of those robots but when he saw the film he feels something unusual, he’s just not satisfied and talks a lot about the old transformers and then in the end he just said that “maybe, I’m a bit too old for this stuff”… and I thought he was just being sentimental. Well I guess, it’s just that you’re being wiser when you get old.
I watched the tranformer and final destination last time. It didn’t satisfy me. I will watch Jennifer’s Body this weekend.
I felt my age when I went to a gig and some snotty nosed teenager was like “Wow – you can still mosh at your age?”….I wanted to strangle the little bastard!
This is typical of movies now adays. I did go see Transformer’s and share your sentiment. I liked them as a kid so I thought what the heck. I didn’t let GI Joe get me though. I vowed to never watch another movie in the theater that involves a Wayan’s brother. It has served me well.

i live with my wife and younger brother and they are both the same age and 6 years younger than me, and they think I have turned into and old grandpa because I just can’t get into the crap movies they watch like, however I did enjoy “The Hangover” recently.

I think its a case of … already seen it.. Whenever you see the same girl in similar poses you are desensitized to it. why else do you ask your wife to dress up in a maids outfit.. because you already seen her in regular clothes.. you need to add spice to it. Megan Fox has been splashed all over magazine covers etx.. we know she’s hot but they burned out the crackle in the fire.. actually if she wore more clothes that were tighter would have reversed the effect.. because you already know whats inside… but not seeing it freely makes you want to uncover it mentally.
So Not getting older just your method of mental exploration is changing.

I suppose there are movies that really lack substance or maybe you perception just changed unlike you were younger. Some of the movies, like Transformers seemed to have started already action packed. Seemed it already started with the climax.

They overly did the second movie. Too bad they forgot we’re humans after all and even how massive the explosion and actions were, a nice plot would always stand out.
I like to think whenever my kids and I disagree about something and they call me old; I like to just think that I have a more mature pallet these days… or maybe I am just getting old.
